Success Story

Prof. Fabrizio Gara and the MSCA PF Experience

Prof. Fabrizio Gara
Full Professor of Structural Engineering, UnivPM

Building Resilient Infrastructure: My MSCA PF Journey
Mentoring future researchers in structural engineering and bridge safety.

Since 2024, I have been supervising the MSCA project FLOOD-SHAB (2024–2026), led by Dr. Karina Buka-Vaivade from Riga Technical University. Supporting her application was an easy decision due to her strong academic profile and research alignment with our group. Our collaboration was initiated through her supervisor, a long-time research partner.

Supervising an MSCA fellow is a rewarding experience, offering mentorship, collaboration, and the opportunity to support the next generation of researchers. I encourage researchers to apply for MSCA fellowships—early preparation, strong mentorship, and highlighting innovation are key to success!

Enhancing Bridge Resilience: My MSCA PF Journey
Advancing structural health monitoring for safer infrastructure.

Attending the MSCA PF Masterclass at UNIVPM was a game-changer for my grant application. The expert guidance on proposal writing and research funding strategies played a crucial role in securing my fellowship. Beyond technical support, I connected with future colleagues, engaged with the international projects team, and got my first glimpse of Ancona—now my home for two years.

Thanks to my host institution’s support, I successfully secured funding for FLOOD-SHAB, my project on bridge structural health during floods. Under the supervision of Prof. Fabrizio Gara at DICEA, I am developing expertise in Structural Health Monitoring and data-driven engineering solutions, crucial for improving infrastructure resilience.

Receiving an MSCA PF grant has been a transformative experience, providing me with technical training, international exposure, and invaluable professional connections. I highly recommend the UNIVPM Masterclass to future applicants—it’s an excellent opportunity to strengthen your proposal, connect with potential hosts, and take the first step toward an impactful research career!

My Experience as an MSCA PF Supervisor

Prof. Oliana Carnevali
Full Professor of Developmental Biology and Biotechnology of Reproduction

Advancing Reproductive Health: My MSCA PF Journey
Mentoring the next generation in reproductive biology and biotechnology.

Oliana Carnevali, PhD
Professor of Developmental Biology and Reproductive Biotechnologies
Department of Life and Environmental Sciences, Polytechnic University of Marche.

My research focuses on reproduction across various models, emphasizing gamete quality, reproductive toxicology, and the gut microbiome’s role in reproductive health. Through national and EU-funded projects, I have contributed to advancing knowledge in these critical areas.

Participating in the Masterclass@UNIVPM was an invaluable experience, helping me co-develop a compelling research proposal by refining objectives and ensuring a solid foundation for the fellowship.

As a supervisor, I strive to create an environment that fosters independence, critical thinking, and professional growth. Effective supervision requires open communication, continuous learning, and networking opportunities to support a fellow’s career.

To prospective MSCA applicants, I strongly encourage you to seize this opportunity—not only to advance scientific knowledge but also to enhance career development. For future supervisors, embracing this role is a chance to shape the next generation of researchers while strengthening your own leadership and scientific skills. The experience is deeply rewarding, both personally and professionally.
